Ambassador attended the 68th UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) - bolstering Thailand's Space Cooperation

H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Vienna, attended the 68th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held in Vienna, Austria, from June 25 to July 2, 2025 – underscoring Thailand's commitment to fostering international cooperation and enhancing its role in space affairs.

On 27 June 2025, the Ambassador welcomed and held discussions with Mr. Pakorn Apaphant, Executive Director of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), who led the Thai delegation to the 68th COPUOS, and Mr. Wetang Phuangsup, Secretary-General of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission and Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) Council at the Thai Residence.

The Ambassador also actively participated in several side events where Thailand played a significant role. These included the Ambassadors Meeting of APSCO member states on June 26, 2025 and delivering the opening remarks at the event "Exploring Space Opportunities in Southeast Asia" on 1 July 2025. This event showcased the potential and opportunities for developing space industry in Southeast Asian countries and promoted cooperation and knowledge exchanges. The event was jointly organized by the space agencies and permanent missions of Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia and marked a significant first for Southeast Asian nations at a UNCOPUOS conference.

Thailand's participation in these activities and meetings reaffirms its dedication to the peaceful and sustainable development and utilization of outer space, as well as its commitment to strengthening international cooperation for mutual benefit.
