Thailand, as one of the Co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of the Nelson Mandela Rules, joins fellow members in commemorating the Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July 2025.

For this year,  it marks two significant milestones in the advancement of United Nations standards and norms relating to the treatment of offenders within criminal justice systems – the 15^th anniversary of the Bangkok Rules and the 10^th anniversary of the Nelson Mandela Rules.

In recognition of this occasion, Thailand presented a resolution at the 34^th Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCCPJ) entitled “Celebrating the Bangkok Rules and the Nelson Mandela Rules: a call for continued action in the field of prison management and the treatment of offenders,” which was adopted by consensus.  

Building on this momentum, Thailand is committed to the effective implementation of these Rules, as part of its broader efforts to promote fair, effective and humane approaches to prison management and the treatment of offenders.
