On 4 February 2026, H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, hosted a reception at the Thai Residence in honor of Dr. Pakorn Apaphant, Executive Director of the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), on the occasion of his assumption of the role as Chair of the 63rd Session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS).

The reception was attended by Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, the Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and representatives from international space agencies, including JAXA (Japan), KASA (Republic of Korea), CNSA (China), ISRO (India), PhilSA (Philippines), OSTIn (Singapore), ESA (European Space Agency), and NASA (USA) among others.

In her remarks, the Ambassador expressed felicitation to this Chairmanship which is a testament to Thailand’s strong commitment to fostering international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space. She also emphasized the importance of narrowing the technological gaps between countries to ensure that all nations benefit from space advancements equitably and sustainably.

On this occasion, Dr. Pakorn Apaphant shared his vision regarding the future direction of Thai space technology and the importance of building cooperation networks with various countries worldwide. His role as Chair has garnered significant interest from both policymakers and the public in Thailand, serving as a positive catalyst for driving and elevating awareness on the country’s capacity on space development further.
